After you figure those things out you can now check out some sites. Here are some of my favorite ones:

This is one of my favorite sites for the fact that you can change models so you can see what it would look like on your toon.

This is another favorite site because you can load your toon from armory and look at the 3D model of it.

Some Transmog add ons:

Mog it

Mog it will let you search for a minimal amount of items. I use it for when I scroll over a item it shows me what it would look like on my toon without having to open up the dressing room panel, for quick viewing.

 

Atlas loot

Atlas loot tells you what bosses drop what. Lets you search Raids, dungeons, factions, world events and pvp items. Tells you what you need to craft or buy items. Saves alot of time of having to go visitng the vendors.

Both these addons are available on the curse client.

Now lets talk about item type:

Trash (grey items)  -  Cannot be transmogged
Common (white items) - Cannot be transmogged
Uncommon (green items) - Can be transmogged
Rare (blue items) - Can be transmogged
Epic ( purple items) - Can be transmogged
Legendary ( orange items) - Cannot be transmogged ( I Hope Blizzard Fixes this!!!  QQ )

Now most green items are Bind on equip (BoE) these sets are easy to shop for if you are willing to spend the gold on them in the AH. Now some people don't realize the value on some of the greens they sell on the AH, so you an use the mobile app to shop if you want to be cheap like me.  Or you can craft or farm these items if you are high level since they mostly drop from old content.

Now blue items are either Bind on pick up (BoP - soulbound) or BoE. These are mostly from dungeons and raids, rare spawns, crafting and sometimes rare drops. So these items will take you some time to get, but again if you are high level it shouldn't take a long time to get. Sometimes you have to keep killing the boss till the item drops, but for good transmog it's worth it.

Now Epic items are mostly BoP but there will be ones that are BoE. These are mostling from Raids, but there are some rare epics that drop from dungeons. You can also get epics crafted or find them from rare drops. Epics are the mostly used transmog. So you probably can find transmog runs for old raiding content. This site is good to find cross realm transmog runs http://openraid.us/

Now Legend wait for it dary items are ALWAYS in Raids. Either by doing a quest line for them or from boss drops. If you are doing the quest lines for them they will take quite a lot of time to obtain. We are not talking weeks we are talking about a month or more, but boy are they worth it. You can try to get a group going on your realm or maybe help from your guild but if you cannot you can always find raids at http://openraid.us/
